Help fund the World Chess Hall of Fame

Meet our First Executive Director

World Chess Hall of Fame

The timing of completion of each Hall exhibit depends on a number of factors, including the availability of worthy chess memorabilia and, most notably, the realization of fundraising proceeds. The Samole family and Excalibur Electronics have contributed over $500,000 thus far in honor of Sidney Samole to provide the space to house the museum.

Nevertheless, the museum is in need of another $1,000,000 in corporate and individual sponsorships to complete the project, furnish the facility with artifacts, and develop a viable operating budget. In addition, there is ample room for future expansion of the museum. The timing of implementation of many of the exhibits mentioned above will be directly related to the flow of fundraising dollars.

The help of all USCF members is needed. This is truly your museum. All future profits of the museum will either fund enhancements to the museum itself or be directed back to the U.S. Chess Trust. If you or your employer can play a role in raising the needed funds, please contact us at (786) 242-HALL or e-mail info@chessmuseum.org, or by mail at:

First Executive Director of the
World Chess Hall of Fame & Sidney Samole Museum

World Chess Hall of Fame

Al Lawrence has accepted full-time duties as Executive Director of the World Chess Hall of Fame & Sidney Samole Museum. Al is a well-known chess author (Chess Journalist of the Year 2000-2001), President of OutExcel Corp., and USCF Executive Director from 1988-1996.

"The Museum is a dream-come-true for chessplayers all over the world," Lawrence said." It is a monumental step in the development of U.S. chess culture - the culmination of Ben Franklin's first U.S. chess book and Bobby beating Boris. I am awestruck by the museum's dramatic setting and compelling content.

"Please contact me to become a charter member now, before this opportunity ends. Become a living part of chess history!"

Al Lawrence, Executive Director, execdir@chessmuseum.org.
