Edmar Mednis

Edmar Mednis was born in Riga, Latvia in 1937. His family came to the United States in 1950. Mednis was educated as a chemical engineer, has worked as stock market investor, but ultimately became a professional chess player. He began writing books on the subject in 1973, and his writings are known worldwide. He is a regular contributor to Chess Life magazine, and a chess teacher of note. His GM title was awarded in 1980. Edmar considers his defeat of Fischer in the 1962-63 U.S Championships to be a career highlight. He was inducted into the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame in 2000.
